EXPLORING THE ART OF THE MALE FORM – RICHARD MATIAS photographer 18 Feb – 3 March daily. Meet the artist Wednesday 20th Feb 6pm

Richard Matias is a Perth based photographer whose artistic interest is the male form.  Richard’s work is all about undermining the taboos surrounding masculinity, sexual identity and nudity.

“I want to capture the natural beauty of my models. Many of them do not realise how truly beautiful they are. Neither do they realise how transient that beauty is. The challenge is to capture that one look, that brief insight, before it is lost forever.”

Richard will also be signing copies of his book “Liberated” which has already raised more than $30,000 for the WA AIDS Council’s Freedom Centre for LGBTQI youth.

After the success of last year’s L’Amant de Saint-Jean: une histoire d’amour,

Nadia Piave returns to TAP Gallery for Valentine’s Day with

La fleur, la source et l’amour  love songs (and stories – yours!) from Paris cafes, galleries and musettes…and this year we invite you to even get just a bit dangereuse…or at least a bit cheeky – we’ll give you the musical backdrop so you can write your histoires d’amour, be they erotic, erratic or just a little bit errant, but always a love story…a note left by a bed, a letter found inside a book, a diary entry from 25 years ago…all yours to invent while the music sets the scene….Nadia, with Gino Pengue on guitar, will provide the soundtrack while you write the stories; this is ‘life drawing’ for your ears!

songs by Trenet, Brel, Gainsbourg, Legrand, Ferre, Aznavour, Brassens and more….. bring pen and paper!

Montparnasse 19

around 9.00pm – a story about Modigliani

FREE TO ATTEND
In Montparnasse young Amedeo Modigliani becomes embittered and dissolute over public indifference to his paintings. Though his wealthy mistress, English writer Beatrice Hastings, appreciates his genius, she encourages his life of drunkenness and debauchery rather than his work. One day, he meets Jeanne Hébuterne, a young art student with whom he falls in love, but after one night together, her outraged father takes her away from Paris. Modigliani’s intensified drinking soon affects his lungs, and he is told by a doctor that he must go to southern France if he is to recover from tuberculosis. In Nice he again sees Jeanne, who returns to Paris with him and becomes his model and mistress. An exhibition of his paintings is arranged by his good friend and patron, Léopold Sborowski, but when it is generally ignored by the public, Modigliani again turns to alcohol. Other disappointments follow, and he is reduced to peddling sketches at sidewalk cafes. Eventually his weakened condition causes him to collapse on the street, and a few hours later he dies in a nearby hospital. Realizing that Jeanne is unaware of her lover’s death, Morel, an unscrupulous art dealer, visits her and buys all of Modigliani’s masterpieces. …Modigliani of Montparnasse ( Les amants de Montparnasse (Montparnasse 19) ) ( Hero of Montmatre )
