JERRY SUN – CLASSIC ARTS 2-8 SEPTEMBER

Jerry Sun - Classic Arts -Tap GFFallerty

I am a self-taught painter who is inspired by many great masters through history. My works are created in a fine and realistic base but exploring artistic twist in a subtle way. I work primarily with oil on canvas and linen, using a traditional process of layering to achieve the final effect. Over the years, I built my techniques by doing master copies, and by applying what I learnt, I have created many original works for my families and friends. My works are mostly portraitures which I have the most passion to paint and which I think is the best way to express my feelings and artistry.

I am an investment analyst and regard oil painting as a hobby. As a person who is interested in both scientific and artistic worlds, I study human anatomy to correctly describe the subject, but, at some point, I would like to forget all I learnt and be guided by only the beauty of colours and shapes and enjoy the freedom of expression. Like a French painter once said “One has to seek beauty and truth”. I try to explore the edge between logic and emotions and turn the beauty of the subject into full bloomsome.

Dancing into the deep .

This exhibition represents a heartfelt collaboration among three friends who have each embarked on profound personal journeys. Each artist has delved deeply into their own lives, confronting and reflecting on their individual experiences and challenges. Through this introspective process, they have found strength and resilience, emerging from their struggles with renewed perspectives and a sense of triumph.

The exhibition is a vibrant celebration of their collective resilience and growth. It serves as a testament to their ability to navigate through adversity and come out stronger on the other side. By sharing their stories and artistic expressions, these friends invite viewers to witness their transformative journeys and find inspiration in their courage and creativity. This collaborative effort not only highlights their personal achievements but also underscores the power of art to illuminate the human experience and foster a sense of connection and hope.

Fiona Pearson was once a standout art student in high school, renowned for her exceptional talent and creativity. However, after graduating, she took a long hiatus from painting, stepping away from her artistic pursuits for many years as a psychologist and coach in the corporate world. It was not until four years ago that Fiona rekindled her passion for art, finding a renewed sense of purpose and expression through painting, sculpting, sketching and dance. During this period of rediscovery, art and aesthetic appreciation in general became a vital source of solace and healing, through one of the most challenging times of her life. Today, Fiona is based in Sydney, where she continues to explore profound connections between people, animals and the world around them, using art to navigate and communicate her experiences.

Leeorah Hursky, a self-taught artist, author and fashion designer is based in Sydney. She has skillfully blended her passions: dance and art. Her unique approach to painting captures the exuberance and vitality of dance, bringing to life the exhilarating experience of moving in harmony with cherished partners across an array of vibrant settings.

For years, Leeorah has been deeply immersed in a diverse range of dance styles. Her journey through the world of dance includes tango, salsa, belly dancing, kizomba, and, most recently, the Forró dance from Brazil, which has become her current favorite. Each of these styles has not only enriched her life but has also profoundly influenced her artistic vision.

Leeorah’s paintings are more than mere representations; they are vivid, dynamic portrayals of the joy and energy that dance brings. Her art often features live performances where she captures the grace and rhythm of dancers in motion. Through her brushstrokes, she immortalizes the fluidity and passion of dance, conveying the sheer delight of each movement and the connection between the dancers.

In her work, Leeorah manages to encapsulate the essence of these dances, translating their rhythms and emotions onto canvas. Her paintings are a celebration of the transformative power of dance, reflecting her deep appreciation for the art form and her ability to convey its spirit through her own creative lens.

Her books and clothing range will also be availble for purchase.

Vee Malnar – Ironic Iconic

IRONIC / ICONIC

By Vee Malnar

Vee Malnar is a multi-media artist, playwright, painter and performer.

Opening Thursday 15 August 6pm. Artists talk Saturday 17 4pm.

Having juggled a busy life of work, mothering and housework, her ideas on canvas portray a snapshot of ordinary domestic life. Kitchen sinks with piled dishes, washing baskets, mops, brooms and vaccum cleaners, all take centre stage and delight the eye with humour, colour and imagination. But there is also a political statement, either subtle or wildly over the top that is integrated into the work.

“I’d rather paint a pile of dirty dishes, than have to wash them,” says Vee.

Housework has the harsh irony that people only notice when you neglect it. It is still not considered “work” to clean the house, and women in opposite-sex marriages continue to provide more care and household duties than men. Women frequently work two jobs: the paid job they go out to accomplish and the unpaid job they undertake at home. Items utilised for our daily chores at home become irrelevant and overlooked because housework is frequently viewed as a tedious chore. Vee challenges our perceptions of our homes by elevating the commonplace and the ordinary above these assumptions of status. In some of the works, she makes references to domestic abuse and the loneliness of being a single mother, highlighting the darker side of domestic life.
