Anastassia Balachova
About
I was born on May 29 1985 in St-Petersburg, Russia. Showing curiosity in art from early age, when I turned 7 I was enrolled in Art School in St-Petersburg where I was exposed to Traditional art techniques.
In 2000 My mum and I moved to Sydney, Australia. On completing my HSC in 2005 I enrolled into National Art School, where I choose Painting as a Major. I feel that the combination of both those worlds and different Art Schools has allowed me to be free and experimental at my own practice and techniques. I enjoy illustrating from both life and from array of people, artists, but also including places and events.
Artists Statement
As I translate my everyday observations onto canvas I find there is a realm of expression only painting can capture. I like to depict a variety of subjects: still life, landscape and especially portraiture, as I find people fascinating to paint and capture their emotion in still moments which painting can achieve. Keeping a variety of subjects are both exciting and challenging for me, as I never stop learning new ways and techniques. Each new canvas in an opportunity for new ways and techniques. Each new canvas is an opportunity for a new experience and adventure.

Artist Statement
I am a painter and printmaker – as a painter my gaze is on the distant movement and textures of my environs; as a printmaker, I contemplate discrete subjects within my environment. Whether my focus is from a distant or close perspective, I am a landscape artist. In my work, I seek mechanisms to express physical and emotional connections with my landscape and the elements within that landscape, and through this I feel a heightened sense of connectedness to the here and now.
About
I was born in Annandale, and grew up in Sydney’s inner west, west, and the central coast, north of Sydney. As an adult, I have variously resided in Sydney, Brisbane, Indonesia and Ireland. I currently work and live in Sydney’s inner west.
