Anna Mary Wheeler’s latest collection of paintings have been made at her studio in Horsfield Bay on the Central Coast over the past year.

Wheeler has recently moved to working in acrylic paints after having allergies with oil paints .

Anna has been experimenting with brightly coloured fluoro paints and pouring paints. She has literally thrown the paints onto the canvas.” It is all about the fluidity of the paint and what it can do.” Anna has been inspired by Jackson Pollock in this series.

The energy is vibrant and positive in this series. The subjects such as her ever present goats,Mickey and Minnie Mouse, animals and mythological subjects all inform this body of work.

”Addressing ‘’cute’’ as a weapon of mass seduction, it may solicit but it does not let itself be seduced. ‘’Bedroom fantasies’’ is derived from the foundational experience of girlhood, when one is isolated in their room and dreams of the world outside. Each artist extends the range of what is acceptable subject-matter to provoke introspection, drawing on themes that are embarrassing and uncomfortable, expressed through multimedia forms.  Novel phrases such as cute, whimsical, cosy and erotic do not weaken the intensity of the works but instead amplify them. ”
