Alexis lives in Bondi, Sydney and is mum to two girls.
After studying drama in London and performing on stage and
in film she travelled Italy for several months falling deeply in
love with the culture, language and art.
In her paintings, Alexis explores the complexities of being
a woman and a mother, drawing influence from Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo
and Turkish painter Hulya Ozdemir amongst others.
Using bright, bold acrylic colours on large-scale canvases,
she examines themes of postnatal depression, and the relentless
demands of mothering that coincide with the intensely profound love
we feel for our children.
Her exhibition, Burning of the Woman, although explicit with
themes of motherhood also explores femininity in greater depth.
It’s a celebration of what it is to be inside a woman’s body,
exploring sensuality, romantic love, friendship and relationship with
self.
