COME CELEBRATE WITH US 21 WONDERFUL YEARS TAP TURNS 21 TAP Gallery will be celebrating the amazing 21 years of contribution to the arts & culture of independent Sydney next week, with a huge exhibition, open to all artists. Since TAP's inception in 1989 over 10,000 artists and performers have utilised the space in an extraordinary variety of diverse art practices. TAP has not only provided an exhibition space for visual artists, it has also supported the performing arts featuring contemporary dance events and given fresh Sydney play writes there first showing. Many experimental burlesque shows have been staged at TAP, as well as film, poetry & songwriting. You will witness some of these amazing & talented performers that have graced TAP Gallery on the TAPESTRY Night, TAP's 21st Birthday supper show. The art exhibition opens Wednesday 21st July 6-9pm, and is free to the public to attend. All artists are welcome to participate and exhibit their work and all mediums including sculpture, photography, printmaking and painting will be on display. To celebrate TAP's 21st year this mini festival will culminating with a fantastic burlesque performance party on 24th July not to be missed. Performers on the program represent some of the finest in underground Sydney: Tug Dumbly, Benito Defonzo, John Maddox, Mia Mortal, Pterodactyl Man, and even manager Lesley Dimmick who has in the past graced the stages of night clubs such as the Manzil Room in the 80's will get up on stage. The Order of Perpetual Indulgence will give it's blessing and will be some special surprise in store with a warning of some nudity, so those guest who are easily shocked should leave it at the door. TAP Gallery is an 'open policy, artist-run collective' providing a forum for emerging artists to exhibit and promote their work. The Gallery is also a venue for visual and performing arts events. Here you will find information on our many shows and events. We have art exhibitions opening every wednesday, and new shows in the theatre. There are many events going on to partake in, such as our 'Sketch Club' for life drawing, 'Club Tap' for Poetry & Song writing, and 'Caught Short' evenings of film. TAP also holds several annual Art Prizes. Both the Exhibition Space and Theatre are available for hire from our services page. Resident poet Robert Balas has his book 'Open 24 Hours' available at Tap.
